Interview Tips

 

You have been successful with your CV and now you have been selected for the interview.  The prospective employer obviously thinks that you match the requirements for the vacancy otherwise they would not have offered you an interview.  There are a few key steps to follow to succeed in being a strong candidate.

 

Research - Find out more about the company by exploring the following:

  • View the company website.
  • Research on the industry sector.
  • Obtain a company brochure.
  • Check Trade Journals.
  • Check the details obtained from the advertisement or through your Recruitment Agency.

 

This information is so important because it will give you a better understanding of the company and the role that you have applied.

 

  • Prepare and find out who will be conducting the interview.
  • Plan and find out how long it will take you to get to the company location and allow extra time for delays or for getting lost.
  • Presentation ensure that you are smartly presented for your interview formal smart wear with shirt and tie for men.
  • Remember 50% of the interview will be judged on your presentation and how you conduct your self in the first few minutes after introductions.  The rest will be down to what you say and how your come across in terms of your personality.

 

When you are introduced to your interviewer greet with a firm hand shake and give direct eye contact, this shows confidence.  Continue to give eye contact throughout your interview and do not fidget.

 

The prospective employer will now be looking for the following key things at interview.

 

  • Can you demonstrate that you have the skills for this job.
  • Will you fit into the team and culture of the company.
  • Is this role going to pay you enough and do you really want the job.

 

Listen to the questions the interviewer asks and answer honestly giving examples from your previous employment to help you answer the questions.

 

At the end of the interview thank the interviewer for seeing you and ask what the next stage will be. 

 

Remember all you can do is your best and this will make you more positive about how you performed at the interview.

 

Feedback from an interview, if you have been unsuccessful can be used in a

positive way and can be used to your benefit at another interview.
