CV Guide
In your search for your next position it is so important to have a good CV that will be a reflection of your skills and achievements and current and past employment. Remember a prospective employer may go through a pile of CV's in his search for the right person, so your CV must stand out and be a relevant match for the position you are applying. You may find that you will have to tailor your CV for different positions.
- Presentation
Your CV should not be more than two pages long and should be well structured clear and concise and should cover the following areas:
- Personal Information
- Personal Summary
- Employment History
- Skills/Interests
- Education and Qualifications
- References
- Personal Information
This should include name, address, telephone number.
- Personal Summary
This should include a brief paragraph of your personality and what you are seeking from your next role.
- Employment History
Take your time and think through your current duties and all the various tasks you are required to perform in a typical day and key responsibilities during the month. Then follow the same outline for your previous positions.
You will find listing your responsibilities and achievements with a bullet point will make your details stand out on the page.
Remember to start with your most recent employment and work backwards.
Prospective employers are really interested in the last ten years so ensure that you include the name of your employer, your job title and dates of employment.
Do not leave any unexplained gaps because this will be viewed with suspicion. So any unexplained gaps note the dates and reason.
- Skills and Interests
This is your opportunity to highlight any relevant skills i.e. a fluency in another language or any computer course attended or additional training accomplished. In this section you may include your personal interests and hobbies.
- Education
Provide details of your education and qualifications including the grades achieved.
- References
You may wish to list your referees on your CV but this is optional and can be supplied upon request.
